Er indoors Toyota Verso 1.6 diesel is due a minor service. I normally have it done at a Toyota specialist, however I am aware the main dealer now gives a rolling warranty if serviced by them. Cost with the dealer is £190 versus around £115 with the Indy. So is it worth the extra? The car has 66k and is coming 7 years old. It has been very reliable over the past 5 years of ownership.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

Also you get genuine Toyota parts. The oil filter is particularly important , so I’m told and I always fit one rather than the pattern part which have variable quality .

My Verso also seems to prefer genuine Toyota blades and even the Bosch replacements seem to squeal .

However, the warranty only activates if the initial service doesn’t find any issues that would be covered under the warranty. If the car gets over that hurdle. you can keep the warranty rolling with an annual dealer service, up to 10 years/100k miles.

My car fell out of dealer servicing briefly but it’s now covered by the Relax warranty.

Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Toyota service history.

If the terms allow for the previous non-franchise service history then yes it’s absolutely worth paying extra for especially with the BMW 1.6 Diesel engine in this particular car as it doesn’t have the best reputation for longevity.

That’s why I’m considering it SLO. I’ve read reports of timing chain failures on this engine and on further research I note that the chain is one of the parts covered by the Toyota relax warranty, so maybe worth the extra for peace of mind previous reliability not withstanding.

You do not get out for nout. Toyota will seek to have your car in as near to new as possible and pick on the slightest flaw and expect you to pick up the tab before you enter into this. It seems that you have looked after your car and I cannot see how Toyota can improve on this and in 3 years when your car is no longer eligible you will still have a relatively low mileage.

Yes had the latest EGR recall thanks Heidfirst. Sammy 1, you are correct, I have looked after the car and it has been a useful family wagon. I intend to run it until it becomes uneconomical as I did with it’s predecessor, a Honda FRV. However I am aware of the timing chain issue and hence I am considering the warranty. Naturally I will outsource any other work eg: brakes to the Indy.

You are actually being given a 12 month warranty for free if you have your car serviced by a Toyota dealer, there are no catches to the warranty at all.

It all sounds like a “come on in” to me thus not worth the extra. A minor service’s most important item is an oil and filter change -and a top up or two of this and that. If you’re confident you could do it yourself or just get it it done at “Halfords/KwikFit etc”.
