VW touch screen - Little man in a hat - sammy1

I had a ride in a friends VW Tiguan 1.5 dsg. He had recently changed it from a 7year old BMWX3 2.0D auto . A very nice place to be and to be honest there was little difference in the performance ride room etc.

However the Tiguan has a touch screen and along the very top of the screen is a symbol of a little man in a hat. Try as he may he cannot find out what it means/does? Has any one got any idea please.

Found reference to it in this YouTube clip, seems to be (along with a globe?) to do with the car being connected to VW's server. Go to about 2:34.
