Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI 90 Connect 5dr - Timing belt change - Jamie Common

Hi, I was hoping if anyone could help me. Iam due a timing belt change on my Ibiza and was looking to get it done at a specialist garage. They explained because of the model and location of belt it will be a lot more expensive. They quoted me total price of £665 for all genuine Seat parts or total price of £430 for INA timing belt. Is there much of a difference between the 2?

Thanks

Probably not . VAG don’t make timing belts. They source parts from the big manufacturers. Gates, Continental, Dayco , to name a few . Nothing wrong with Ina . Just make sure the garage has the correct timing set up tools .

I'd suggest getting a quote from a SEAT garage too, especially if the car has any form of warranty

The SEAT fitted price is £499 (or £599 if they replace the water pump too. Price includes 5 year warranty.

See link below and scroll down and click on "ENGINE". Any SEAT garage should offer this price.

As already said, get a price from your local main dealer. They’re often quite competitive with timing belt changes. The last two I’ve done (VW Polo 1.2 TDi and Volvo XC60 D5) were both done by the local main dealers and the price quoted was very close to backstreet non-franchise garages. I’d do the water pump on this one at the same time.

I think this may be the same engine as my 2016 Skoda Fabia for which I was quoted £500 by the franchised dealer.

My wife has a 1.2 TSI 90 VW Polo (2016), so may be the same engine. I had the cambelt changed recently and on this engine there is a separate belt for the waterpump. VAG dealers don't always know this (unbelievably).

I got it changed at a VW franchised dealer and they charged me for the cambelt and waterpump. Once I had explained that the waterpump runs off a separate belt, they admitted the waterpump hadn't been changed and they refunded me the difference.
