Does anyone know of any cars within a budget of £15K (new or up to 3 years old) come with cruise control?
I am aware of the Mondeo Ghia X (just within budget at car supermarkets) and used to have a Volvo S40 SE with it.
Must be a manual.
Thanks in advance

Dave,
Omega 2.5CDX (or 2.0CDX at a pinch) 18 months old, from Julian Trim (Auction agent) £10K including commission. Mine was auto, but there is a manual
Sorry to those who know about my Omega addiction, but I had to say it...if the badge said BMW the same car would sell for £20K.

But why would you WANT one, unless you are going to the USA?
IMHO, and incidentally, Paul Ripley's, they are a waste of money, and, in UK, potentially dangerous!
Let the flames begin!

Actually, Roger, let's not let them. Sorry, a message doesn't usually catch me on the hop like this, but yours did. I've just ten minutes ago scotched another potential rantfest which hopefully now will go un-noticed, and I didn't want to see open incitement to further trouble right at this moment, even if it *is* meant tongue-in-cheek.
Lightening up, and turning to your post, I completely agree with you. I've never been able to afford a car of my own with proper cruise control, but when I worked on 'Top Gear' mag I drove plenty and, as you say, I too found them to be potentially dangerous. My friend Kevin has cc on his 5-series BMW, and he told me the other day he hasn't dared use it since last time he was on a French Autoroute.
Incidentally, if you want to talk dangerous in this context, my diesel Land Rover had a power takeoff which worked by a ratchet on the dashboard. I used to use that as a cruise control! How stupid?

No, of course I didn't REALLY expect a rantfest, as you put it, nor do I wish to encourage one. Sorry (to all) if you thought I did!
However, having participated in a couple of Forums, I know how strongly some contributors can react to perceived criticism of their judgement :-(
I don't somehow think that opinions on the merits of cruise control are likely to generate as much heat as, for example, 'joyriding' !

My apologies, Roger. As I tried to say in my original reply, your post caught me at the wrong momennt. What I said needed to be said, but I could have found a better way to say it. Sorry.

Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia with leather & cruise control option pack.

(Going to get boring, this site?)
Anyway, I've had the use of cruise control off and on since E reg., never had any problems, and miss it on the open road whenever I don't have it. And for crawling along at a ridiculously low speed on an open but infested motorway it is essential!

well since "speed kills" i would have thought a device which can keep you to exactly 70 mph all day on a long motorway drive from say glasgow to london would just about guarantee that you dont have an accident... i think they should be made mandatory!
then i'll be able to drive at exactly 70 mph one mm from the car in front of me safe in the knowledge that i'm a safe driver cos i'm not speeding
should also help out in the ice/rain/fog to help me keep up with the speed the government think is appropriate...
will also help me overtake traffic police while i weave about safe in the knowledge that i wont get stopped however many cars i pull in front of sharply and without warning because traffic cars these days never bother with anyone but dangerous speeders...
great idea... maybe we could all adopt other maerican ideas like a hand gun in most gloveboxes - it sure cuts down on the heated arguments after accidents - and stereo theft - and agresive driving - you know if ou really upset someone he may just shoot you - instant justice - happens quite a lot - better than traffic police?
so cruise control and hand guns in the glove box alround (oh but youre not allowed to carry beer in cases on the back seat on the way home from the supermarket - may as well adopt all the american rules)
and we can all turn left on red where safe to do so...
great i like these ideas...

Ford has just recalled all 2001 MY Mondeos fitted with cruise control because water ingress can prevent the units switching off. See news on this website.
