Further to the above you might want to refer to tyres rating as regards the tyre LABEL ie Wet braking noise rating and fuel efficiency. This is an EU standard

Actually its not worth the plastic its printed on. The manufacturers do the tests themselves, there is no audit of the results.

Just look at the brilliant ratings some of the ditch finders get but when independently tested they are well short of the better mid range and premium tyres especially in areas such as wet braking.

I buy premium brands if the price is right but if no deals are on the table quality mid range tyres are just fine. The last set I bought were Uniroyal, excellent tyre and about 20% less than a Goodyear/Pirelli etc. The label suggests they are poor on mpg, a bit noisy but brilliant in the wet. They are indeed very good in the wet but the car is about 2mpg better on them than the old tyres and also a good deal quieter, so much for the labels or perhaps they suit the car. No idea if the previous (Yokohama) tyres had labels but they were 10 years old so probably not.

Ok final question before I go ahead and replace all 4 tyres...

so my mate has an A4 cabriolet and his tyres are Back: 255/40 and Front: 225/40, same profile front and back. Mine are currently B 255/40 and F 225/45. My brain doesn’t seem to compute why the profiles are bigger on the front and smaller on the back?
All the tyrewebsites after inputting my reg are saying the same, bigger profile in the front.

Is this definitely correct? Apologies if it sounds stupid!!
