Mazda cx3 - Third Mazda service and MOT - FoxyJukebox

My Mazda reaches an intereresting stage in ownership this coming march. It will be 3 years old on 11/3 , finish it's 3 yr guarantee, due it's third service at a local dealer 5 miles away( the last in the 3 services paid for up front) with an MOT due at the end of the month. This coincides with a house move to an area that is some distance away from a Mazda dealership. There's more too!....it has only done 3500 miles since march 2020 when it had its 2nd service and with lockdown 3 I am only doing 6 miles a week mileage and as we all know, am being discouraged from being mobile and visiting anything non essential .

The obvious solution is to have my MOT done locally or wherever sometime before end of month (march),wait until I have moved then instruct the dealership in my new location to collect the car, service it and return it . That is if they offer vehicle collection/delivery and are happy to extend the service interval for a month or 3. I'll try and find out if they do.

Another thought--perhaps I should just forget about the idea of the paid for third service in my current location, just have an MOT done--then have a short "3rd" ( oil change essential) service done by a specialist non dealer in my new location-who naturally won't do it for free.Even if I postponed a 3rd service till the summer /early autumn--I doubt if i would have covered more than 5000 miles since march 2020.

I haven't decided anything yet. The vehicle is running fine. Comments welcome

The obvious solution is to have the MOT done locally and as it's out of warranty get it serviced locally. You will save a shed load of money

One factor to consider is whether the MOT or the service might identify a warranty claim. You are on much firmer ground if the service is being done on time rather than a few weeks late.

I will face the same decision with the Golf in the summer when it's three years old. I am toying with the idea of having it Mot'd by the good indie we use for our second car and asking him if there is anything amiss that would be covered by warranty. I am not sure I trust the main dealer to raise any warranty issues when doing the Mot.

Maybe I am overthinking but, wherever it is Mot'd, I will have it serviced on time by the main dealer before the VAG warranty expires.

You may like to consider the possibility of updates that are undertaken when the car's in for service.

One car I owned had the headlamp units replaced FOC whilst being serviced (it was still in warranty). Not a recall and any of the model serviced outside of the main dealership didn't have this work done

Thanks Sammy1--its the obvious solution unless the car gives out completely before 11/3-in which case the guarantee still holds till then!!

What I might do though--is £UP my breakdown insurance-seems a sensible thing to do to pay ( no £excess of course) .....

Thanks

I tend to have the service at the end of the warranty period carried out by the main dealer, in the hope that there’d be some goodwill if an issue arose over the next 12 months. Generally move to an indie after that.

That's the same policy I'm using

...ditto for me (Audi A3 Sportback). Will be 3 on 01/03.

MOT is booked with my preferred indie (mate's rates) for very early Feb and I will arrange for the authorised service in very late Feb.

Tax and insurance also due 01/03 & 08/03, plus it'll be wise to have the brake fluid changed and then I'll either extend the existing Audi Breakdown cover or find a keenly-priced alternative!

The third anniversary of an 'owned from new motor' is indeed a b***** expensive time...

At the first VED renewal, I just get 6 months, then buy annually thereafter - that way the VED and insurance don't coincide.

That Mazda won’t have any defects after 3 years, so have your MOT at any reputable garage and you’re safe. Those cars are bullet proof, now more than ever.
