Can't see any problem with using one of these. I think the manual is referring to those mains booster chargers that can over voltage the system. I think that the instructions for most of these recommend that the negative lead is connected to the engine, rather than the battery. If your car has stop start, then follow the car manual instructions when jump starting. There are usually specific battery terminal posts that need to be used.
