So Essex county Council would like to have a "Dutch Roundabout" on a main road.

Suicidal or what.

How to cause gridlock!

Do they have constant gridlock in the Netherlands then?

Relax it won't cause Gridlock in Colchester. Thats already been achieved by the never ending London road roundabout fiasco. OK I haven't been there since mid March but I have never seen such horrendous gridlock as in Colchester. A gnat passes wind 30miles away Colchester grinds to a halt. This bunch of idiocy will achieve nothing but more chaos.

The solution is simple. Get traffic out of Colchester faster. Traffic lights forever stopping you leaving the town centre its almost as if they want gridlock.

The picture suggests that this will be like the one in Cambridge which we've been discussing in another thread.

Doe anyone know why there seem to be clear Give Way markings on one of the exits but not on the other three?

I agree it's stupid - the product of men in suits sitting in meetings. The greatest danger is from motorists not expecting to have to give way to cyclists coming from the left. on exiting the roundabout.

It won't be like the ome in Cambridge, That one is not on an A road, but is a bit of a rat run.

Colchester is the road that leads off the A12 onto Cowdary avenue which is already badly congested as the town centre is one way from the east.

The proposed changes to North Station road, will cause more problems too as local traders in that area rely on the 30 minute parking for a lot of business.

We already have a cycle path (shared) on mile end road that i have yet to see being used.

The area around the railway station and bridge under are bad enough now at any time of the day.

My own suggestion (as I see it), is that the roundabout is replaced by a normal crossroads, traffic light controlled, which the roundabout is anyway because of the pedestian pelican crossings.

South bound from the station to the Albert roundabout is buses only. Northbound is buses and access for residents.

It seems the last consideration for any road changes is the car. Cycle lanes in sunny Basingstoke never seem to have a cycle on them yet they take up loads of space, obviously some Colchester council guy has been to Holland and thought their roundabouts were awfully pretty.....pint of advocaat landlord please.....
