If like me, you're a fan of Car SOS, and watching it on More 4, you may like to know that National Geographic channel is now part of the NowTV entertainment pack. This means that you can see the current series if you're subscribed.

I've just been watching the Austin Healey 3000 episode (series 8 episode 2). Such a glorious sexy beast.

But a reminder of how there are some rogues out there who rip off the unsuspecting. £25k and 5 years to send back a car in a shocking state! As you'd expect, Fuzz got it all fixed in the end.

I’m a fan of the show but my favourite car related show is Flipping Bangers. Sadly recently been denied a third series.

Yes I was disappointed about that

I would watch it except for Tim Shaw. I know he is a very clever chap and probably perfectly decent in real life, but his antics ruin the show for me.

Not just me then.?...it;s the same with Brewer on Wheeler Dealers...just cannot be doing with them...but Fuzz and Ed China (now Ant Anstead) were always well worth watching

Same for me on both counts!.

Re Car SOS, i did watch the first series, and i like Fuzz, but Tim is just the most enormous pain in the derriere. And why is it with these shows there has to be a 'time element'?. The car has been sat in a shed for 10 years or whatever, so why does it have to be finished in 5 weeks or whatever?. Can't we just have a show where Fuzz, or Edd (China) works on some of these lovely motors without the plonker alongside?.

This week was Hillman Imp.

Fitted it with fuel injection.

Injectors off a motorcycle - fitted 4 - no fancy palaver over these injectors.

Compare that to a BMW/MB where anything but the brand is deemed unacceptable.

46 years old - 29 years lying in a shed - rust everywhere - looked brand new in a matter of a few weeks.

Oh how I wish.!!!...to be free of smarty pants Shaw with his faux scams and the cockney word mangler Brewer would be SO welcome

The mechanics in these shows are the real stars, Ed Fuzz and Ant are genius'. Ant has many strings to his bow besides restoring cars.

He seems to have got the message, and toned it down in the latest series.

All these shows about restoring stuff are too irritating to watch just because of the "antics" "false smiley faces" etc.

But presenters try to make themselves stand out and as a result, they're all the same.

The home improvent shows are no better!

I can whole-heartedly recommend another car related programme, slightly different but if you love seeing old cars ( and some not so old) give this one a try.

“Bangers and Cash” on the Yesterday channel. Freeview 25. Is also on Freesat, Sky and Virgin. You will see some interesting cars and motorbikes, and the owner of the business, Derek, and Sarah in the office will demonstrate that an entertaining TV programme can be made without all the unnecessary theatricals.

Just watched the latest episode. I should have kept my old minivan!

Agree "Bangers and Cash" is brilliant and I get up there as regularly as I can...last time I was up there I spoke with Paul, Derek's son..they are a friendly lot with good humour..the museum is worth a look too.

Shame that this virus is going to stop the auctions etc..but I'm sure they'll be back as soon as they can and give us the pleasure of seeing some great classic cars.

Not if that nonsense with the bucket of water over Fuzz's head is anything to go by.

I feel sorry for Fuzz having to act the unwitting stooge in all of it.

Personally a swift kick to Tim's knackers when he tries it on would be immensely entertaining.

How about foul mouth Jock in the Garage in Spain. There were some good mechanics in this and it was entertaining with some interesting customers and cars.

Sadly true of the majority of these shows, more rebuilding and less waffle would be perfect.

Anyone see last nights edition? I agree with the above. I would have liked to have seen some of the cylinder head rebuilding of the crossflow engine on the Mk1 Escort Mexico. They only choose small snippets of things they want you to see. It's an hour long, surely they can include more of the rebuild in that time

As for the car, the only bits original were the engine block and the roof!

I guess you never please all of the people all of the time.
At times Tim can be a little annoying but my lad thinks he’s funny.
And I think that’s the point, these shows need attract folk of all ages.
You take the so called unpopular figure from a show and in reality it becomes dull and boring.

Anyone ever watched u-tube, most guys taking things apart are pretty dull.
I watch all the car shows and just ignore the stuff that annoys me.

Alternatively we go back to the days of snooze worthy Chris Goffey doing his shut the car door/hand on the roof road tests. - No thanks.

Hey! William Woolard and him are legends!

Everyone is different I guess but it seems you cannot entertain these days without being an a***. JC to thank for that.

Now you are talking - some proper reviews.

A lot of car reviews seem to be done by people that think they should really be comedians and are just doing reviews until there big break.

Nowadays plenty of reviews on YouTube.

It's amazing how many people seem to be able to get their hands on a demonstrator and put up a road test on Youtube. Not sure how they all manage it.

Personally I prefer the tests which are about the car rather than mainly about the presenter. What Car, Carwow and Driving Electric do a pretty good job.

I love it, the pure quality of these guys and how they turn a car around is always amazing. It did settle a question for me with regard to a friend of mine, who likes these old cars, and the idea of doing it himself.

On our travels he saw a skelton of an old car, and said he COULD do that up, at which I told him he cannot, for the followingn reasons ...

I reminded him that it costs money, to not only get or craft the parts, but also for the equipment you would need to buy to do the job, some of which ( I saw this on tv ) costs 50'000 and is only available to trade people. The other thing I told him was that you need the premises, you cannot turn these cars around by doing them in your back garden but must have the use of a garage or similar place to work in.

So if you do not have all that then it is nothing more then a piece of scrap metal.

Salvage Hunters Classic Cars was back last night on Quest, or dplay online. A Fiat 130 coupe was the main event and an SL500 for a slightly easier job.

The show demonstrates how many very talented 'men in sheds' there are in the UK. The new door handles for the Fiat were made by a gunsmith.

I watched it. It was entertaining and instructive - but I suspect Drew got trade prices on parts of teh rebuild.

Iirc they spnt £36k including buying the 130 and sold it for £40k at some fancy do with free drinks.. They carefully avoided telling us what tehy apid for tehdo at which they sold it..

Having run classic cars and maintained them for a hobby (Riley 9, Rover 16, 1960s Mark3 Lotus Elan)..you have to be a fanatic DIYer or have lots of money to run them regualrly. Things go wrong regularly...and driving old cars without PAS in towns is not fun...

What I would like to run is a V8 Bristol but I'm too old to diy at that level and not rich enough...

I cannot stand the awfully dim Tim on SOS. He's like that irritating t*t Brewer on WD. Id warm to SOS if it spent more time on fuzz and the actual resto.

That said there's a number of car resto channels on You Tube. Nitrosilvia is working on his numerous Rover SD1s and Salvage Rebuilds UK in particular more like the old sytle WD programmes when Edd China was the man.
