My current car insurance policy ends at midnight April 6th. And would get me my first years of No claims. If I were to start a new policy with a different insurance company on the 6th. Would I be able to use that years of No claims? Or would I have to wait untill the 7th Before I can use it?

How about getting some quotes and asking the insurance companies. I can see no good reason to have your car uninsurred.

My problem is. that the cheapest quote for me is £120 per month on the 6th April. And the cheapest on the 7th is £170 per month. From a different insurance company I have now. So obviously I would want to start the new policy on the 6th. Which is why I want to know if I would be able to use the NCB on the 6th from the old policy. Both quotes saying I have 1 years NCB aswell.

Are you sure it ends at midnight? All the policies I have had that end at "midnight" are actually 12.01.

This is to avoid confusion as to which day it ends as "midnight" could be confusing as to whether it means the start or end of that day. In your case does it end at 12.01 on 6th? If so your new policy starts at 12.01 on 6th too so your cheaper quote will be applicable.

I am unclear however as to why your quotes both apparently allow for a year's NCB but arrive at such different amounts.

On the insurance certificate It says midnight on 6th April. I just needed to know if the new insurance provider would accept the NCB if I started the new policy on the 6th or wether they would reject it.

Yeah I have been bewildered for weeks as to why my insurance quotes change by so much. I dont change any details on them apart from the Start date. Ive had as low as £105 per month, but that was for the 2nd April which I couldnt use because I need to wait for the NCB otherwise the quotes would be within the £200 region.

If you switch insurers, the new one requires proof from the old one of your NCB, which they then apply to the new policy.
