You can convert the old VW campervan (or micro bus as our US friends call them) for a lot less than that 60k.
That is rather misleading for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it depends on what exectly you mean by an old VW Campervan. Really good 'Splitty's' can cost £60k or more as they are.
You could have a younger and cheaper 'Bay Window' converted to run electric, but............
......that leads to other major hurdles if you want to end up with something you can actually use as a work van. To get the 200mile range of the Morris, you'd need a suitably big battery pack. Where would you put that on a Bay Window (or splitty for that matter?. If it was at the rear where the engine goes, that would lead to very uneven weight distribution and the resultant unpredictable handling with all that weight hanging out the back. If you were to put it under the floor that would require a pretty major redesign to both raise the floor and strengthen the whole structure to cope with it. And once that was all completed, it is very doubtful you'd be able to then carry a 1000kg payload on top of that.
