Notice there's no HJ Angry column on the site for this weekend. Is it because it is Leap Year Day or some other issue?

Maybe the new owners don't want anyone angry on the site as against rules of forum? LOL

Calm down dear. It's still Saturday. The world won't end if HJ's a bit later than he used to be. Besides, don't you normally like to criticise some of his answers?

It looks like it. Who knows why - don't forget HJ lives mainly in the Far East, which has obviously suffered quite a great deal of problems of late as regards a certain illness. It might be that, or something completely different - maybe he didn't have enough correspondence to justify both a Telegraph column (which was published on 28th Feb) and here. I'm sure someone will make us aware soon.

I had the impression that HJ would have been attending the Geneva Motor show, (now cancelled), but did my little protest the other week bring other simmering tensions to the boil after i was "barred".???

No necessarily, as the change in ownership happened prior to that column being published, as shown in the thread about the site originally going into administration before. The change in ownership was also discussed there and elsewhere:

Says he who complains the most!

I generally agree with HJ's comments especially about LFB with autos. I think he's wrong with his claims re hydrogen cars and point out the inaccuracies he makes about EVs.

Other than that, he gave me the biggest laugh when he told the buyer of a new car who'd got a 7 grand discount then found there was no load area light to buy a torch when he complained.

But are most boot lamps just a low wattage bulb anyway?

I bought a multi led flat stick on light for my previous car that does the trick. £2.99 in home bargains.. others are available.

Surely if there is a list of things you want in a car you check the specs, and look in a showroom before buying?

Example. new car for me and swmbo

small wheels, high proffile tyres , tick yes.

manual handbrake, tick yes, Dab radio, tick yes,

manufacturer with a good reputation and long warranty, tick yes!

Non aspirated petrol engine, tick yes.

Space for a full size spare, tick YES!

Does HJ have a contract with the new owners?

HJ owns his name probably will not own honestjohn.co.uk now.

The Honest John trademark EU007513476 is owned by honestjohn.co.uk ltd and so will have transferred to the new owners of the site.

Yeah but the agony columns and Mark were what kept the site alive, otherwise it's like watching paint dry.

That's rather harsh to say the least. TBH I was never a fan of Mark's style of videos myself, believing them to be a poor pastiche of The Hamster which never really worked, mainly because, IMHO he tried to be both funny and informative and, to me, didn't pull of either. In my view, the low view numbers and like count on the HJ YouTube channel (compared to other car review sites for similar output) was rather indicative of what the audience thought.

Whether he was just made redundent (as he stated on his twitter feed) or was sacked (and why) we may never know, though judging by his recent tweet, he appeared to still be miffed at ORB's critique of his video review output, after he announced his departure.

I wish him well in his future endeavours. Hopefully HJ's Agony Columns will return next week.

Couldnt agree more. Either the article was one of those 'placed' ones or was pukka. The guy actually contacted HJ to ask if he had grounds to reject the car and get his money back because of the no load area light. Incredible to think someone gets a 7 grand discount, doesnt do their research then wants to reject the car for something they missed or didnt check.

I rarely complain about HJ's ansers/responses, unlike some I could mention, who say I complain the most, but who then goes on to complain about HJ rather like they do on a weekly basis on the Agony column. It appears that as one didn't appear this weekend, you migrated back to the forum to keep your HJ complaints going.

The words pot, kettle and black spring to mind.

I do comment occasionally about some of the questions asked of HJ and of the comments by other users. I've really only complained about one (now former) site member, who was trolling me and a good number of others, which was entirely justified as they were not adhering to the site rules on conduct.

Yes indeed-it ruined my weekend reading. Will it appear again or....is that it ?

No HJ Angry column 29.02.20? - Sulphur Man

I'd say that's it. Culled as part of the new ownership. Conflict of interest between gathering ownership data but not publicising and tracking ongoing quality issues with VAG and Daimler group cars.....

The link for it has disappeared from the News homepage drop-down, when you click on it.

The historical content is still there, if you search 'Agony' - https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/honest-johns-motoring-agony-column/

Let's see how long that remains searchable..

Although I am a bit sad to see it go, the agony column was becoming predictable, even though I myself have learned things from it, and some of the questions have made me smile.

Whatever happens though, Thank You HJ for all your wisdom and thoughts and your replies whenever I have emailed over the years.

If you are retiring, Enjoy, and Gods Blessing!

Am I the only one on here to find it odd that this website totally lacks any information about itself? This forum is the only source but that is pieced together by a handful of regulars and Avant saying "I will ask" but rarely getting much of an answer.

The Agony Column has been a popular weekly feature for years but this week at least it disappeared without trace or any comment or information from the website. Much discussion in another thread about the departure of Mark Nichol but only because he posted his "redundancy" on his Twitter feed. Likewise no comment when HJ's video reviews stopped, let alone why the entire archive of them disappeared.

Many (most?) websites have an "about us" page which usually reveals something about the ownership, editorial policy, etc but nothing of the sort on this one. I guess most of that was pretty obvious in the days long ago when it was HJ's private website but not any longer.

There is a statement that the site is operated by Mobility Trader UK Ltd, and from Companies House it is indicated that this company is controlled by Volkswagen AG.
