The Mg has gone to the servicing MG dealer who have paid me £8675 today,(they had offered me £8500 as a trade in in dec2019.. make of that what you will. so my losses at getting it at a healthy price in the first place aren't too bad after all.
New Kia comes Tuesday as the salesman has 12 to hand over Monday, and he is very grateful for my understanding.

Aah well ORB, you can chalk that one up to experience. But if you didn't give the car a chance, and try it, you'd always be wondering.
Hopefully the Kia will be completely trouble free!.
|
Nice one ORB...I'm sure you'll enjoy the Kia.

All new MG3 due next year , hopefully they have upgraded the engine

How much did you pay for the MG originally (if you don't mind)? I'm just gauging how much they depreciate.

List was £14545. If I.,d paid that I'd be in trouble like some are. I paid 10991 as an ex demo 2161 miles.
In the end the niggles got to me.
Don't go there.
The theory was nice but........

I really admire your honesty Oldrover boy. Most of us have been in your sort of dilemma at some stage of our motoring career, but maybe don't want to admit it.
The one car I did get right was a Honda Accord which I rented off the Main Dealer for a day before placing an order. But it's so difficult when a second hand car is involved.
These short test runs over a chosen route to hide potentialbshortcomings are annoying and not long enough to appraise a car especially when the salesman is next to you !

Oh, I'm not interested in one - more to see how much you lost in depreciation in the time you had it. Not quite as bad I first thought, but it shows how much they can reduce the list price and still make a profit.
I thought I'd got a lot off my Mazda3's RRP when I bought an unused rental car originally from Cyprus (UK list price [its in the middle of two specs] around £13.8k) for £10.3k from Motorpoint back in early 2006, a discount of 25% - but that was when the UK market was significantly oversupplied with cars. Now I can why yours attracted such a huge discount. A £2.3k loss isn't I suppose the end of the world.
I remember when my local KIA dealership also sold MGs (for about 3 years, stopped selling them around 2016 or so if I recall) and could hardly shift any, despite dropping the prices to ridiculous levels.

more to see how much you lost in depreciation in the time you had it.
Has worked out at £154.40 a month ignoring fuel costs and 2 services ved and insurance.
If I had paid full list it would have cost me £5870 loss or £391.33 a month.
MG motors UK have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot, but I have nothing but praise for everyone at Kerridges, (Needham Market)

A shame. What's the new KIA you're getting then? A Sportage or a Niro perhaps? I like the new XCeed, at least for looks. They aren't as cheap as they used to be, but they now like a high quality product, getting very near the engineering quality of the best from Japan.

Sportage 1 1.6 petrol
Advantages (for me)
16" wheels 215/70/16 tyres.
Manual handbrake.
Reversing camera.
DAB radio
Space for full size spare. (alloy) from main dealer £132.
2 years free servicing and 2 years full uk/eu breakdown cover.
cheaper to insure than the MG and better put together.
SWMBO approves!

Rather a bit of a trek for me to get there! Whilst I'm closer to Needham Market than many Backroomers, it's still a 60 mile trip from Royston, especially down the infamous A14!
:-) Thanks for the offer anyway.

I am obviously confusing you with another member who lives in the area. Grovel...

Glad you've not lost to much on the MG....and had a good dealer, I'm sure you'll love the new car, the 1.6 turbo motor is highly praised, not sure I'd ever go back to a normally aspirated engine again.

That's very cute..

I'm pretty sure ORB's car is not the turbo, given you can't actually get that engine with the lowest '1' trim level.

Absolutely correct, BBD
I wanted the 16" wheels. Can't have them on models with a leccy handbrake.

A question for Old.Roverboy. In your list of positives you have an alloy wheel for £132.
That appears to be a bargain price..... have you then got to buy a tyre and jack+ wheel brace at additional cost ?
