Peugeot 508 - Can't take the gearbox in the 508 e-hdi anymore. - myjess

I bought my dad's 508.

It is now 7 years old but only has 18500 genuine miles on it, so I would rather hold on to it and who would buy it anyway with a gearbox that is more than terrible, and has always been terrible.

Is there no-one or no way to rip that crap gearbox out and put and ordinary 6 speed auto in its place? Can't really put manual in cos I have a bad hip.

And before anyone asks, it has the usual e gearbox issues. Doesn't know what gear to go into pulling hard from standing start. Reversing is a guessing game as to when it will let go on the clutch, usually letting go far too much.

Only changes down into first properly at slow speeds when crawling to a roundabout junction, if it in sport mode.

Dropping the clutch too much in sport mode pulling out of a junction so the esp comes on and the car drops all power for a split second.

Can't afford a new car and this car would be alright except for that gearbox.

Already been at garage for a gearbox reset/upgrade, didn't make a bit of difference.

Thanks.

Not well liked by anyone this gearbox. It’s best driven very gently but if you can’t live with it then it’s time to sell it and buy something you prefer. The low mileage will appeal to dealers so call around and see if anyone is interested plus get a valuation from webuyandcar etc. Take whatever you get and buy a reliable petrol engined car preferably of Japanese origin. Reliability is especially important here if you have no money to cover repairs so don’t let ambition get ahead of you, gadgets and badges can wait.
