BMW - What are BMW thinking - dan86

As per the title. My God BMW are designing ever increasingly ugly vehicles.

The grills on these things are humugus one could possibly describe them a goping.

I used to like BMW's I've had a few of them a 1986 325i saloon was my first then 2 1991 325i saloons then my favourite of all a 1993 325i convertible. I still have a soft spot for old model BMW's but they've made nothing I like for a long time coming up for 15 years maybe it all started with the bangle era cars but even they look nice compared to some of their latest offerings. The likes of the X4 and i6 are to me totally stupid and pointless but then again if we all like the same thing it would be a boring world (less ugly mind).

I think at least part of the blame here lies with the Chinese. A huge market for BMW, i believe they do like big grills, so BMW obligingly, err, oblige.

While i do like the i3 and i8, i'm not sure i'd describe them as 'good looking', distinctive certainly!. As to the rest of the BMW range, hmm, not for me thanks!.

IMO, the last really good looking BMW was the E24 coupe, in its original pre-facelift form with the slim bumpers and no horrible spoilers.

But, TBH, for me it isn't just BMW, there really are worryingly few modern cars i do think are nice looking!.

Many modern cars especially "premium" German cars are just vulgar and brash.

Would be nice if they could tone down the ugly front end for the European market.

Not personally a lover of BMW but I see where they are going, as certain Hondas and Toyotas were having cooling problems so they have increased the airflow to the powertrain and made the underneath more aerodynamic to go through the air easier

electric cars will be made the same to keep the electrics and motors cooler due to the position of the motors and electrics on the car, Tesla spoke about cooling some time ago as they had problems with one of there cars

eventually a car wont be made to like, they will be made for efficiency

I had an E21 323i...now that was a good looking BMW in Henna Rot...or Red/ Orange if you like. I had the seats done in Black leather, Stainless exhausts. Lot of fun for a young man that was.

The laws of physics are the same for all car manufacturers. They also all use the same or very similar software to optimise designs for aerodynamic efficiency, stability, weight, crash strength, space for passengers and luggage etc.

So it should come as no great surprise that all cars tend to converge on a common style and shape, with only very minor variations in bits of trim or to pick up on elements of historic design cues.

BMW are the new Ford based on the number of units they are selling so they must be doing something right! I like the new front on the 1 series.

I'll have to disagree with you on that. Personally I think Hyundai and Kia are making better looking cars now days.
