Renault Megane - Woman takes revenge on Dealer who sold her a Dud!! - Peter Chamberlain

I came across this whilst looking for reviews - this woman is clearly very, very upset by the dealer she bought her car from!

At least she is taking a stand!

Renault Megane - Woman takes revenge on Dealer who sold her a Dud!! - gordonbennet

I suspect this thread will last about 30 seconds after Avant or HJ himself spots it.

Having clicked on the link and the My Story link within, it's basically a person buys Diesel car totally unsuited to the school run, car breaks down as a result of DPF blockage...as anyone who spent one single hour doing a bit of research would have expected would happen...and said person is not happy with the dealers response so has somehow spoofed over the dealer's website (or taken a screenshot and overwritten?) with their own views as well as showing further negative trustpilot 'reviews', which may or may not be genuine.

The story is saddened by the buying being widowed, and it's anyone's guess who's idea a Diesel car with DPF would be suitable for obvious local stop start school runs, when anyone with an ounce of sense would have advised the buyer that such a car would be the very last vehicle they should consider.

I also think that her response is a bit 'over the top' but I guess it is also a reflection of how she feels that there is nothing else she could do....

I also wondered if the other reviews were real (there are facebook ones too) and so I checked and they are indeed real. I think that there is a button below the trustpilot ones that takes you to trustpilot and the actual reviews.

My own personal opinion is that if she had seen these reviews before she might not have gone to that dealer as they are nothing short of awful!

I also agree that a diesel car with a DPF is wholly unsuited to the school run but surely dealers should take some responsibility in identifying the needs of their customers and recommending the most suitable car? (maybe they did do this but from my own buying experience nobody has ever done that for me)

Sorry Peter - the link has to go. If it showed simply the dealer's website and its response, that would have been fine: but the customer has overwritten it (and in doing so weakened her case as well as lashing out at the dealer).

We have to play very safe on a public forum like this, and not take the risk of the dealer thinking we were after giving them adverse publicity.

And as GB says, the customer is at least partly to blame for choosing the wrong car for her needs. If you are going to spend a lot of money on anything - not just a car - common sense suggests that you should do a bit of research first to make sure it matches your requirements.

(Edit - I'm slightly curious, Peter, as to why your Email address has the name of the dealer in it!)

Based on that info I would suspect that Peter is a disgruntled employee of xxxx and is in truth also the lady with the problem car.

But if xxxx pick up on the fake website and Peters e-mail address I suspect he will soon be an ex employee.

The company's genuine website ends with .co.uk

The website which was posted originally and which Avant deleted the link to ended in .uk

The .uk site has been set up to look like the original site, but filled with complaints. It seems likely to me that "Peter Chamberlain" has set this up. Especially as he is using an email address associated with the .uk site. He won't be an employee of the genuine company.

The .uk domain name was registered 22/11/2019.

Aren't there "fit-for-purpose/ of mecantable quality" clauses in UK consumer-protection law that miss-selling a modern diesel for short runs would fall under?

I'd think technical illiteracy of the customer would be a basic assumption, though in this case it sounds like they are pretty hot on IT.

Iit is possible the IT could come from a friend/partner/relative...

Pity the same person didn't spend 5 minutes finding out a DPF'd Diesel on permanent school runs would be a liability, before any of this fuss was caused.

You surely don't expect people to have to think for themselves?
