MG HS - Saw one on the road today// - oldroverboy.

Saw one this morning parked, and a better proportioned vehicle altogether.

not that I specially want one, but appears to be a big step up.

Looked nice in White, Leatherette interior..

My ZS is Roomy, but this looks Cavernous.

I think it's the replacement for the GS - one size up from yours.

I've seen some road test reports which aren't hugely complimentary. It seems that your ZS is the sweet spot in the range.

There was one on display in the Grosvenor shopping centre in Chester last weekend, along with a ZS and a MG3. The HS looks a step up from the other offerings - it looks like the stylists have now got it right.

The Chinese with MG are on a similar trajectory to:

  • the Japanese who in the 1970s evolved from small, basic, cheap, reliable cars sold on the basis of price and gizmos, to market segment premier league 30-40 years later.
  • Korean manufacturers who also started out cheap, basic etc etc, and who 20 years later are also now premier league in their markets

The improvement process is getting faster, I think due to simplified and cheaper international trade, communications and IT. So expect the Chinese to be "up there" with the best in 10-15 years time. I personally would not buy one now due to relatively poor dynamics and quality, but in 10 years time they may well be on the list!

My brother in law, who is from the middle east was importing chinese cars and pickup trucks into Jordan and Iraq till recently.

He always says that the Chinese will produce what you want/

You want cheap/ OK/

You want good OK.. costs more.

You want topnotch. OK, costs more.
