Ford Mondeo 2L Diesel - Difficulty in engaging reverse gear when cold - JSL51

Difficult to engage reverse or 1st gear when starting. Once running everything runs smoothly. Garage cant find anything wrong but reckon its a common mondeo problem as the clutch plate may be sticking on input shaft. They reckon only way to check is to take gearbox out.

4 figure sum to repair.

Seems excessive

Ford Mondeo 2L Diesel - Difficulty in engaging reverse gear when cold - Galaxy

Haven't had this problem with the Mondeo's but I did have it some years back with my Ford Capri.

The solution. Start the car up in reverse gear with the clutch fully depressed.

Total cost? Nothing!

How old is the car? mileage? how long have you had it?

When was the gearbox oil last changed?

A lighter oil might make a difference - I had a similar problem many many years ago and this was suggested by the garage.

Garage is not far wrong . Clutch kit and dmf is around £400 . The job involves a lot of labour to remove / release suspension and subframe components.
