This week's postbag is, in my view, not a great advert for Audi in particular nor VAG in general. And also a rather recurring theme, it seems.

This week's postbag is, in my view, not a great advert for Audi in particular nor VAG in general. And also a rather recurring theme, it seems.

It is a snapshop of the typical "postbag" that crosses the desk at the HJ office. If these cars were more reliable, then HJ would be happy to say so, as he does for those that are. In any case, this site is not and could not be an advert good or bad for Audi or any OEM...HJ would soon lose his long held high reputation for integrity and...wait for it...honesty.

Not sure what your point was - I wasn't saying HJ was biased at all, but it appeared from the large proportion of VAG-related problems that constantly pop up on w eekly basis that they aren't as wonderful and reliable as their marketing campaigns.

If not sure, then why did you attempt to justify your point in response and against what points that I made, if you don't understand them?. In fact my post was clear and straightforward, both in language and purpose. It is clear from the comments that HJ makes on a regular basis that VAG cars, etc, etc, but for the avoidance of your doubts, I will repeat, the postbag is an accurate reflection of the topical comments, made by readers who have enough interest to correspond...that they show up brands for what they represent in real life, is not in any way "not a great advert for Audi", or any other brand so quoted, simply what I have already explained at some length, the reality of car ownership, away from the world of marketing. You then go on to make my original point, while stating that you did not get it...

Ah - so your point was to repeat his point...

Re : Double sided, above,
Performance of the Veloster didn't really match the look and buyers did not take to the unusual arrangement of 2 doors one side; 3 doors on the other.
Indeed, a car with that combination of doors would look unusual.

Yes, that got my attention too. Perhaps the headline should have stated 'Double Vision' instead? ;-)

In the recent past, I have owned 2 diesel Scirocco,s, a diesel Tiguan and currently a Golf GTD. All were fitted with the highest power engines and also fitted with DSG boxes.
All were bought new and run up to about 45/50 k before change.
I have never had a DSG problem ,think they are a brilliant box and ideally situated to the engine characteristics.
However, I do always select neutral in traffic and do not sit on the brakes in gear.
I also get the DSG box serviced at the stipulated mileage.
So, they are not all bad!!

Re Hyundai Velostar
The car would have been a lot more popular if the double doors (and access to the read seats) had been on the near side. Getting children out into traffic seems like folly.

I owned a Hyundai Coupe SIII from new. It was a 2 litre petrol with reasonable performance, very well equipped, great Ferrari-like looks and a lovely, spacious interior.

The Veloster did not tick any of those boxes and the three doors have been tried and failed on other brands.
