Dash Cams - leaving them in your car - thirts

I have just bought a dash cam and was surprised that it is somewhat fidly to take it out of the car each time it is parked and therefore assume it is designd to be left in the car. However, in this daty and age would they be subject to a smash and grab if left in an unattendted vehicle.

What do most people do with there sash cams when leavingthe vehicle unattended?

I bought a cheap dashcam and leave it.,In full view but under miirror so not very noticeable. Not stolen in 4 years - but new battery needed.

Picture quality? Ok

Front and rear cameras in one car, front facing only in the other, none are removed.

I place the front facing one to the left hand side of the interior mirror, so not only does the mirror disguise the camera ( a little) the camera is barely visible from the driver's seat.

For the cost of the things, unless you went for an overpriced designer camera, they'd not be worth the hassle of stealing, but we seldom park in undesirable areas anyway and by that i include town centre car parks, if we had to park in such areas regularly i might think again.

A BIB once told me scrotes would break into a car if they could see anything worth more than a couple of quid. As the damage in doing so would probably cost a hundred quid or so to rectify, I always remove mine when parked.

Some time ago I friend has it car broken into and had two cans of coke taken that were on the passenger seat.

The dash cam I bought isn't top end but I was surprised it didn't just clip in and out to aid easy removal - it has a screw attachment and it would appear that most do, which makes it a bit of hassel to remove.

buy one powered by a capacitor ( no batterys to get fried) pick a small one and fit it high behind the mirror and it will hardly be noticed

I have had a Nextbase 402G for some years. It mounts/demounts easily and I've had no problems with wear and tear on the cable. This is a non-current model and I've no idea what later models are like.

I have a Viofo A119/A119S and if the top of your windscreen has that black dotty pattern / strip like my CRV does you can mount it such that only the lens is visible below the black dots and you can barely see it, much better than a Nextbase one mounted with a big suction mounted where everyone can see it including the local tea leaves

Cheap ones are difficult to remove. Get something decent like a Nextbase or Vantrue and they have a quick release button.

I have a Vantrue dual lens in my MX-5. Very easy to remove and quite small so will fit in a pocket. It just unclips from the mounting which has the power to it rather than directly to the camera.
