All the usual things, for a car of this age. Perhaps most importantly, whether it has been 'repaired'.

.... whether it has been 'repaired'.

If you are strapped for cash and need transport, a 'repaired' car (which this one seems to be) is not necessarily a bad deal. If the repair was recent the damage may have been trivial, but more expensive to repair professionally than the street value of the car - such as a mild front-end damaging lamps and bumper but nothing structural. My car was written off in this way 2½ years ago but is going as well as ever. If the damage was very recent the seller may have patched it up poorly and be trying to get rid.

Only downside is when/if you come to sell, which will be difficult, as the present seller may be finding out. If you drive it successfully for a few years it could prove good value, even if you have to scrap it.

Sorry, but CAT S is structural damage.

Cat N is uneconomic to repair.

Yes there is something you should look out for. THIS CAR IS A "CATEGORY S" INSURANCE WRITE OFF.

If you try creating an advert for this car on Auto Trader (like I did), you will see that it comes up as a CAT S.

You don't create an Auto Trader account or log in to do this, as you are not actually going to post the advert.

The seller is a home trader. Avoid.
