SEAT Ibiza III - Not satisfied with car service ! - geek84

Hi folks

My wife took our 2011 Seat Ibiza for a full service at the local dealers from where we originally bought the car from.

They changed the oil and oil filter but definitely not the spark plugs, although they charged us for all 3 items.

A few days later I took the car and showed it to a reliable mechanic (a friend of a friend) who confirmed that the spark plugs have not been changed because he can see the old burnt out ones still in the engine.

He went on to say that the coil packs had been removed with a lot of force, while trying to get to the spark plugs and that the mechanics at the dealers should know that they broke the coil. He said the mechanics at the dealers removed the rubber bits from within the coil and on the spark plug sand possibly threw them away, so that the spark plugs look new.

Please advice how I should present these findings to the dealer and should I possibly ask for a part refund?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'm curious to know why you took the car to your mechanic friend?, was there some reason you suspected the work had not been carried out properly?.

Also, given the car is 8 years old and therefore well outside any warranty obligations, why take it to a dealer when you know a reliable mechanic?.

As to your question, i'm no mechanic, but it might be tricky proving that the damage to the coil packs were done by the dealer. Regarding the plugs, assuming you can manage without the car for a day or so, it should be easy enough to present the plugs that were in the car after the service.

Strange going’s on here . How do you know they didn’t change the oil and filter. ? If the rubber insulators have been removed from the coils , then they will need replacement.

It's usually easy to tell if oil has been changed, maybe also the filter if you can see it.

Very strange indeed. Get back tho the garage asap and tell them calmly that they have charged you for work not done..i.e the plugs. If you paid by card they will perhaps take this up, they are pretty powerful. We had a drive done and it wasn't right, the firm wouldn't reply etc etc, luckily I'd paid some of the bill by credit card and they sorted it. Workers back next day and £400 for my troubles.
