As title says really... what engineering machinery is best for removing a snapped pinch bolt..

Hss drill bits take hours as they are strengthened steel !!!!!

Have a hub assembly with snapped bolt as it was seized. Now need to remove it then replace with a nut and bolt

Heat is your best friend here. Get it hot and punch it through. This is not a regular bolt . Get the correct part and a new nut.

I have been informed (from an excellent experienced engineer) that a carbide drill should be able to drill hardened steel. FWIW.

For drilling out a high-tensile bolt - It's probably a 10.9 grade if it's a suspension pinch bolt - tough but not super-hard as such, use a HSS cobalt drill bit such as these:-

I've got a set and they are very good.

A cobalt drill bit will do it no problem. Constructed with a carbide tip like a masonry brill but ground with a cutting edge like a conventional drill. If you have a good enough grinding wheel you can even make one out of an old masonry drill bit.

Drilling it out is a last resort method, are you sure there is no other way?

You need a green silicon carbide grinding wheel for carbide.

Agree cobalt drill bits will do the job, use some cutting paste also to reduce friction. Some good tips here

I got some very hard drills from Axminster to drill out a circlip on a 206 rear wheel bearing, its slow going but will do it. We do our shopping in Axminster so it was quite convenient.
