Good morning everyone.
I own a 2004 corolla 2.0 D4D 116 since 2016 which has been trouble free until it became difficult to start 2 months ago.
It struggles to start when the engine is cold but it won't start at all when it reaches its operating temperature. When the engine is hot it acts as if the battery was weak but when cold the starter cranks 4 to 5 times ( slowly) before the engine comes to life. I have replaced the starter motor and the battery but it does not make any difference.
It all started when the fan stopped working . The auto electrician who worked on the car did not fix the problem, instead he modified the cooling system so the fan would work permanently. This first consequence was an unbelievable fuel consumption for a diesel ( 16 city 29 highway) .The difficulty starting the car appeared when he finally got the fan to work normally. The problem is that even now i noticed that the fan does not work perfectly well.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks
