Vauxhall Astra Convertible 2.0 Turbo 2004 - Cylinder 2 Misfire - steve-focus

Hi,

generally the car runs fine, starts up ok, accelerates away nicely under normal conditions.

the problem arises when i essentially try to floor it for overtaking purposes, the car accelerates up to a point, then there is a slight judder, the engine light starts flashing then comes on permanently until i switch the engine off then it clears. when the engine light comes on the engine does sound a bit rough, but still runs.

i've attached an engine management reader and it comes up with a p0302 cylinder 2 misfire.

the fault clears when i switch off the engine.

Before i start going down the expensive route of replacing bits or taking her in the garage - can anybody shed any light?

\I've switched a couple of spark plugs but same problem arises....what next?

cheers

Steve

Usual suspect on these for random misfires is the coil pack/cassette. I would also replace the spark plugs.

Yes: notorious for that.

new coil pack is about £180....was hoping it wouldn't be that, any way to get it checked beforehand or is 2nd hand a bit of a risk??

actually found one for £80, so maybe not that bad.

only changed the plugs 2 or 3 months ago - still worth changing them again??

Plugs should be ok at that age. You should be able to buy a genuine Delphi coil pack for around half that price. Don’t bother with the cheapo coils .
