Renault Laguna Mk2 2005 petrol automatic - Heater Blower wont turn off - littlestone

Can anyone help me please. Just over a week ago the heater blower comes on when the engine is started and I cannot switch it off. I can get warm air by turning up the controls and blower works fine but just wont turn off until the engine is switched off and I open the drivers door-strange!! Any assistance would be appreciated. I've purchased a resistor off ebay as a friend says it might be this and this should arrive early next week but maybe its something else that I need to be looking at. Thanks in advance. Tom

Fan speed controller would be my thought, especially if it has electronic climate panel

Thanks for the quick response. Where is the fan speed controller located and is it an easy fix for someone like myself who has basis DIY skills. I tried disconnection the battery for half an hour this afternoon as was told that it might reset the ecu but no avail. Thanks Tom

I think you will find it bolted to the heater blower motor air ducting . Access from the passenger footwell.

Thanks will give that a try and let you know how I get on.

Tried to get off the heater blower motor today after removing the main screw and turning motor anticlockwise but it just wouldn't move, any ideas please. I also tried to remove the screws on the resistor but could only get one out, back one was almost impossible to access, got the socket over the screw/nut but could not turn it. Help!!!!

Struggle and patience. You are probably doing it right . Welcome to the real world of car repairs. Remember, car makers only put them together. They don't care about who has to take them apart.

Blower motor removed and cleaned, also old resistor removed and new one installed but problem remains. Blower coming on when engine started, albeit quieter after clean, but staying on and will not switch off when off button pressed. Help!!!!!

For all those interested, I think that the resistor did the trick after all. Just went out for a spin and lo and behold the blower did not come on. Maybe it takes time for the new resistor to be found by the computer and reset. Well all good for now so I am a happy man again. Tom

Spoke too soon!!!! Off button still not working on the control panel which incorporates the slot for the keycard. At least now the blower does not come on as soon as i start the engine and only works when I chose one of the options like auto on, screen heater, increase the blower speed etc. I am now thinking that maybe its the electrical connector at the back of the panel. I seem to recall that there are two connectors and that the one on the right hand side is directly behind the off switch. Could do with some expect guidance before I try and remove the control panel though as totally unsure of what I should be doing. Cheers Tom
