Over last 2 years have had various starting, cutting out and running problems.
First. Starting, engine needed long cranking period to start. Got more difficult and more frequent. Good dose of Easy Start effective, long Jump start usually worked. Replaced Fuel Rail Pressure Relief Valve. Solved.
With hindsight from purchase the van had low revs flat spot. Got worse with low power right up to 3000 revs or more. Cleaned EGR ,not really bad, no change.Replaced MAF Sensor, problem solved.
More recently. Intermittent cutting out or non start. At first waited a few minutes and it would start. As is the nature gradually gets harder to start and happens more frequently. Looked at Crank Sensor. Whilst engine idling moving sensor and connector engine would cut out. Replaced Sensor. Could not repeat failure. OK for a few weeks but then more problems again Starting and cutting out.
Attention drawn to the Fuel Pump Pressure Regulator Valve. It Buzzes, is that normal ? Obviously stops when electricial connector removed. Tried removing and replacing several times , buzzing continued ,but engine started. Over a few days continued to cut out or not start but would restart after disconnecting and reconnecting Valve wiring. Replaced it. Started first time but on test drive repeatedly cut out at higher revs, about 6 times in1/2 mile. Then tried keeping revs/power demand low and didn't cut out. Checked wiring and installation. still not running properly . Tick over was also uneven with engine speeding up and slowing rather than rough. Put old Valve back in and it returned to earlier situation. Still random cutting out but quick to restart. Noticed that after first turning on ignition and most warning lights go off sometimes the 'Glow Plug' light comes back on. This is when it won't start. When you go through ignition sequence and light stays out ...it starts.
Have just been looking at the Pressure Control Sensor on the Fuel Rail. Voltages in the expected range through ignition , tickover , and use of throttle ,all stationary . Looked at all easily accessible wiring.
For these last faults no fault codes on a small hand held diagnostic tool.
Were next. Any ideas.
