Avon ZT7 tyres - bathtub tom

I'm needing a couple of tyres and looking around, Avon ZT7 come up quite cheap. They're a new tyre, only introduced this year and I can't find any independent reviews.

On the basis that anything that seems too good to be true is dodgy.....................................

Anyone here have any experience of these?

My latest set of Avons are made in Serbia, which may explain some of the cheapness.

I am on my 3rd lot of avons (on 3 vehicles)

Quieter than what was on the car before ((VENGA) cont'is) others changed as about 3mm/30000 miles and wanted to change before the winter..... had on previous rio did ok. previous was on chevrolet cruze. Satisfied, but I drive quite calmly.

I have run ZT5's and they were quiet running and grippy. On my Rio about 20k per wheel set. I wouldn't over-think on tyres as a brand new tyre from a reputable manufacturer will be way better than a worn out tyre! In pre-internet times I used to physically look at similar cars to mine to see what tyres folk were running......

AVOn is a long established UK tyre manufacturer.

Just google it and you can find all the info you may need.

I suspect that Avon are now simply a name (except for thier racing tyres). The company is owned by Cooper Tires (the spelling gives a clue to thier origin) and no doubt they will be getting them made as cheap as possible in the cheapest place (just like all manufacturers).

My last experience of Avons was the ZZ3, which were noisy and gave a harsh ride, but the grip in all weathers was superb (grip echoed by my son who had them on a very fast Scooby), despite this grip i had them replaced at 4mm due to the noise downsides, obviously that has no bearing on this new model, but if Avon rate a tyre A for grip i'd be inclined to trust that appraisal, where i'm not too sure that trust applies to all makes (who rate their own), wet grip is my first priority everything else comes after, if they prove rubbish in the wet i don't care if they still have 7mm tread left they're coming off.

Its quite interesting where tyres are now made, the Falkens recently bought at bargain price for daughter's Civic are made in Japan and are proving very worthy, i've had ridiculously cheap but always good Uniroyals made in Germany, and again very good Vredesteins all of which have been Netherlands made.

I had a once only foray (really to test my previous opinions) into Taiwanese made rubber, and there were new Chinese tyres fitted to my Landcruiser when it was bought, i would be reluctant to have tyres made in such places again, assuming one knows the origin before they turn up, so i tend to avoid makes most likely to be from such places.

Avon ZX7 x4 bought 6 months ago - quite happy.

Made in England & a corner of a Union Jack emblazoned on the sidewalls.

Replaced Dunlops, a good British name, which were made in Japan!

Just put four Avon ZZ5's on my new (to me) Insignia to replace two ditch finders on the front and two OEM Bridgestones on the rear.

After 1k miles on them I can honestly say that the ZZ5's are much quieter and grip wet and dry is much improved (as good as any car I've driven on far more expensive rubber).

I have far more trust in the car on them.

I appreciate that doesn't help on the ZT7's you're looking at, but I'd have Avon tyres again.
