Mazda 6 sport petrol - Petrol Fuel problem - cockneycooky
A friend is having problems with his Mazda 6, starting, misfiring and just general poor running.
He booked it into a dealer who said he had badly contaminated petrol,
They said they had not seen anything like it before, apparently the fuel in the tank was black.
It is used often, done around 45k and topped up regularly with petrol.
They have changed the pump, cleaned the tank and it’s still not right.
Any thoughts on what could have caused the petrol contamination?
I guess if it is really that bad then the injections could be clogged too.

Haha, that’s what I said. But no it’s very very unlikely anything has been put in the tank.
Certainly strange, and wondered if anybody seen this before or any ideas

I'd be checking with the last couple of filling stations I'd used, to ask whether any other customers had reported the problem. Perhaps leaking underground tanks, and earth/diesel getting into the petrol?

I've seen diesel fuel contaminated with the diesel bug which causes a black sludge - but never petrol.
