I know this possibly should have been posted in the new Berlingo thread which has resurfaced, but as that seems to have gone slightly off topic and because it was from February originally, i thought i'd start a new one.

I love this type of car, we had one back in 2003, and what a brilliant no nonsense family car for those unconcerned with image or what others think.

The main reason for this thread though was to link the Honest John road test, which made me laugh out loud!. Clearly HJ has very similar views on SUV's to myself, but i was surprised at the vehemence of the no-holds-barred attack on SUV drivers in the 1st paragraph.....,

Looks like a really smart well thought out vehicle. I wonder if they'll do a 4WD manual petrol without all the electronic flim flam (As far as possible)

The Rifter as the prestige version of the 3 (Berlingo/Combo life/Rifter) will be available with 4 wheel drive and raised height early 2019 in the UK.

I am looking forward to giving it a try

If they do a van version, I may actually look into one of these. That would be pretty much perfect.

Hilarious, and probably very close to the mark.

I'm no avid fan of Peugeot or French cars generally...but I like it...like the concept...sod the image.

"How well it takes corners obviously depends on the weight of the torsos of the passengers"

Well, if they were strapped horizontally to the floor it would lower the centre of gravity - it's not a hea*** is it?

I liked the first paragraph. Honest John is getting more ranty by the year!

Looks good, hope they do a Citroën version of the 4x4 with their new adaptive "comfort" dampers - that would be right up my street.

Wonder what it's towing capacity is and whether it has same Gross Train Weight trap as current Berlingo/Partner.

Looks good, ...

No it doesn't. It just looks like a French Multipla. They never looked good, did they?

What's this about the Multipla? Remember one at a French campsite disgorging a family of 6 and a tent the size of Wales.

What's not to like?

That's fine, but has little to do with what it looks like? I had a Prairie for a few years while kids were at uni, and that was a practical vehicle too, but I wouldn't give it high marks for appearance ....

I always liked the Fiat Multipla, it was a car with character, and charm. Much nicer than most ugly SUVs such as Range Rovers, and ugly cars with giant radiator grills.

Agree completely, assuming we are talking about the pre-facelift version, before Fiat tried (unsuccessfully) to make it look 'normal'.

Not really sure why there are no cars nowadays offered with a '3 front seats' option. The current Berlingo/Partner vans can be had with 3 seats in the front, so why have they never offered that option to buyers of the MPV versions?. Surely the type of buyer for a car like this is exactly the type of person who would appreciate a little extra practicality and versatility. I know the vans (manual gearbox only i believe) are a bit cramped for 3 adults, but A, it would be fine for a child that does not need a child seat, and B, with an auto version more space could be freed up for the centre passenger's legs. After all, 3 adults can sit comfortably in the back.

Pickups as well, i remember all the pickups (apart from an old Subaru) used by the company my Dad worked for having a bench seat in the front, but as far as i am aware, the last pickup you could buy in this country, with a bench seat, was the old Nissan D22 (single cab) up to around 2007. Seems to me like wasted space, especially, again, if an auto gearbox.

Yes. The facelift version is perfectly okay, but bland and charmless. At least it didn't have the in your face two fingers in the air brick shape of the Range Rover et al.

I look forward to seeing how the mini campervan community take to it. The custom Berlingo camper van is a great fun cheap little project van.

Those big Yank tanks with the bench 3 seats up front were great for young guys. You could drive along with your girl friend cuddled up to you. If you are going to be distracted while driving that was much more fun than a phone. Don't start me on the subject of the drive in cinemas either. That gave a new meaning to the term motorsport.

Oh, I am. If you have four children, as we did, you'd have one bambino whining 'Are we nearly there' directly into the driver's left ear. When ours were young, we had a Renault Savanna followed by an Espace, with the loudest voices going in the 'very back' as we called it.

New Peugeot Rifter - Chris M

We had a Savanna about 20 years back. 1.7 petrol 5 seater. So no ball of fire, but very comfortable ride, partly down to the long wheelbase and an amazing load carrier.

Seem to remember that the Multipla was Top Gear mags car of the year on more than one occasion.
