In a bizarre response to the French government introducing a reduced speed limit of 80kph on rural secondary roads, one French department (Hautes-Alpes) has announced that it has increased the speed limit on the majority of its roads that currently have a 70kph limit (even that is frequently excessive on the mountain roads!) and that the limit will now be set at 80kph.
The departmental head announced that the government’s decision to reduce the limit on roads which had hitherto had a 90kph limit “makes no sense”.
