Seat Leon Mk1 - Seat Leon Mk1 Starting Problems - Peter Hilder

Hi all, I have a 2003 Leon, Petrol 1.6 and it has a strange starting problem, I'd really appreciate some ideas. It's a great little car apart from this problem.

My Leon starts first time every time I take it out for the first time in the day, but, the second journey it always struggles. I am now having to attempt to start it 6, 7, 8 times on the second and subsequent journeys. I fear at some point it just isn't going to get going! I don't want to ditch it, but I do need it to be reliable. It is always on subsequent journeys after having been parked up for 1-3 hours. Can anybody give me any clues?

First item to check is the engine coolant temp sensor. very common on Vag models to give inaccurate reading and cause hot and/or cold starting issues. In fact I looked at a friend's Audi A4 at the weekend as he was having starting problems from cold. When checking data with a cold engine,the coolant temp was showing -20 degrees.!
