Merc A class CDI 1.8 (2013) - Noisy Engine - squibsquib

I have just purchased a 2013 Merc A class 1.8 CDI with 30,000 and full Merc service history. Car drives great but I find the engine noisy for a diesel. It doesnt sound like there anything sinister. Just sounds like a noisy diesel. Is this the norm for these engines? I have read about faulty fuel injectors could be a potential cause.

A 5 year old Diesel that has only done 30k - you are asking for trouble with its dpf and emission control fittings.

Why have you not posted to one of the motoring groups?

Merc A class CDI 1.8 (2013) - Noisy Engine - SLO76

These are quite noisy engines from new and the A class was never the best built car on the road so expect sound insulation to be worse than most rivals. Robust engine if looked after though.

We had a B class diesel courtesy car for 8 weeks and I noticed how noisy it was, especially on tickover.

Try changing the oil, and put something decent like Millers/Fuchs in.
