Vauxhall Omega - Warning beep coming from rear light cavity - James Aplin

Just changed the battery and straight away there was a high pitched beep coming from somewhere in the passenger side light cavity at the rear. Nothing to do with ignition as this beep is continuous and happens even whether they ignition is on or not. It's a bit annoying and quite useless on its own. Is there anyone who can help?

Hi Jim

Is your car fitted with a towbar? If it is I think the buzzing will be coming from the 7-way bypass relay, which will be wired in between the rear lights and the lighting socket on the towbar.

The electronics have probably become confused when you connected the new battery. Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of mins, then reconnecting and see if this solves the issue. Of course the bypass relay could be faulty altogether.

One of the functions of the 7 way bypass relay is to provide an audible warning to the driver to alert him/ her that the the trailer indicators are working. You should either have an audible warning or an extra light on the dashboard to show the the trailer indicators are working.

There are different types of bypass relay, here are a couple which I have found while googling:
