C4 1.6 2007 hdi auto - High-pitched whining - Big chris 1976

When driveing I can hear a h igth pitched whistle when i break it stops n noise starts again when i x array on any advice plz kind regards . Chris

i get a lot of high pitched whining in my car too. if I am on my own i can't hear it.

Could it be an air leak on the brake servo rubber diaphraghm? I had similar on an old Pug 306.

More info needed, please.

Mileage? Belt service history? Is the whistle frequency proportional to the engine revs? With the bonnet open and the engine idling, can you still hear it? If so, where does it seem to come from.....and does it stop if you spray the auxiliary belt with water?

Come back and answer all these, Chris, and you might get some helpful hints.
