2003 CR-V iVTEC petrol - Almost stalls at idle then recovers and repeats - mss1tw

Just got an EML on the dash. Thought it might just be related to a bad start (didn't hold key long enough) but even after a drive light on and symptoms as above. Drives fine

Think it might be the idle control valve but open to other ideas and does anyone know how much of a job it is?

Problem with idle control valve .Needs cleaning,but needs to be removed to do a proper job.Not difficult,as the valve is at the front of the engine,at the top.

A thread in General prompted me to update this

I never did do anything to fix the fault - there is a Jet station near me, and ever since I stopped using it the problem has gone away. Jet is the closest station and therefore used most often, and as it wasn't 'supermarket' fuel I assumed it was OK.

I go a bit further to Shell now, and use their standard Fuelsave unleaded

I've put 10,000 miles on it since that post, and it's been fine. Like I say I didn't even lift the bonnet once I spotted the pattern after filling up at different places due to longer journeys.

So, not an advert for premium fuel, or against supermarket fuel (No fuel station at my supermarket!), but simply that this one particular station might have dirty tanks, stale fuel or something.

Hopefully it might help someone. No fix better than a free fix!
