KIA Sorento 2011 - Key stem has broken off from the electronic fob - willm

More accurately, where the metal stem meets the fob is a shallow metal slot and the facing has broken off on one side of the slot. The metal stem just dropped out. .

I still have the broken off piece, can it be simply be superglued back on with the stem in place, without effecting the ignition response signal?

I didn't force anything, must be accumulative "battle fatigue" over the course of the years

Well the actual electronics are inside the plastic fob so your proposal should work,

Though I'd use epoxy for a stronger bond.

Right!

So signal is transmitted from engine rather than conducted along the metal key stem?

Close,

there's a sensor ring around where the key goes in the lock/ignition switch,

And the chip in the fob does the rest.

Actually in a pinch I taped a broken fob to this ring and used a back street key cut from the original to turn the ignition,

Customer was in a hurry and it was still working quite some time later.

'course there was no working imobby and the only security was to remove the key.

Builders!

Always in a rush.
