bmw x3 Servotronic steering - BMW X3 Servotronic steering resistance +/- few deg - zuluboy

Hey all,

We bought the X3 10months ago and honestly havent driven it much (circa 6k miles), so this issue could have been there from the start.

Anyway, if your driving along on the motorway doing 70MPH, you naturally drift left/right a couple of degrees and you correct it with the steering.. However what Ive noticed is that in the middle of the steering there is very little resistence +/- a couple of degrees and then there seams to be bit of resistence you need to push through to go a little further..

now its not like on the MWay your turning left/right but Im surprised to find this "step", or resistence..

The car has Servotronic steering which some of my friends think is to blame (ie its normal)

BMW have taken the car out and claim they've never seen this issue with other cars but alas they dont have any other 2012 X3s to compare it to ..

The car is still under warrenty so I really want to get this checked out...

Any ideas?

It's supposed to be like that. The last thing you want is over-sensitive power steering at speed.

Basically, the higher the speed, the more input is needed to make major changes. At slow speeds (when parking, for example) very little input is required through.

Hi,

I am experiencing exactly the same issue. Did you find a resolution? I cannot believe this is normal.
