MINI One - Camshaft timing - Leigh Kirk

Morning all

I've had the timing chain replaced on my 2010 mini but it is now producing the following fault code:

P0015 OBD-II Trouble Code: Camshaft Position B - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1)

It appears that the timing may have slipped due to the cheap locking tool used.

How much would it cost to have the timing altered at a garage? Is it a simple job?

MINI One - Camshaft timing - hardway

Unlikely,

The tool is more of an alignment tool/gauge.

The important aspect of this is the camshaft sproket locking bolts.

If these aren't tightened to the correct torque,

Or if they reused the old bolts the slip is possible.

I'd take the gamble and realign the chain with the gauges and then fit new camshaft sproket bolts.

I wouldn't exactly call it a simple job but your walking over someones previous work,

Lot of mechanics aren't too keen to do that.

Try a trusted garage,

Explain the situation and see if they'll re-time it and fit new cam bolts
