VW Golf 2003 1.6 Petrol 120k - Fuse 38 controlling RHS full beam on Golf- - IneverSaidThat
Sometimes the full beam in my car won't go off, even after disengaging all the switches. Fuse 18 which should normally control the circuit of RHS full beam doesn't seem to make any difference when this happens. Instead Fuse 38 which normally controls Fuel filler cap, central locking and lighting rheostat seems to control the full beam (RHS) along with its usual function. This seems like a short circuit to me but I am not sure where to look. Please help!!!

Fuses don't control anything. They are fitted in a circuit as a protection, and being the weakest link it will break in the event of any part of the live side of the circuit shorting to earth. Fitting a bigger fuse will do no harm as long as there are no faults with the circuit. But if a short circuit were to occur the fuse may not blow and therefore offer no protection. In this case the wiring could get hot and burn.

Are there any non standard electrical extras fitted?Take a look behind the fuse box to see if any of the wiring has been interfered with.Has the car been fitted with after market xenon headlights?

Are you sure there's not a relay after the fuse? It sounds more like a relay contact is stuck causing this problem.

No extras have been fitted. I looked behind the fuse box but couldn't see anything suspicious.

One of the wires coming out of the fuse box was shortciruiting with some others and this was causing the trouble, took me so many hours and days to figure out and fix as had to replace the wire in the harness.
