Hi
I have a Mercedes SLK 280. A few months ago it was in a minor accident and the front drivers side wing was crushed a bit on to the wheel. Bit of front end damage too.
It was repaired under under insurance. After repair, it was taken by the repair shop to a specialist wheel alignment place, who gave it the OK. I have confidence in them - they use Hunter HawkEye and many London dealers take cars to them.
I'm pretty sure the car is pulling left though. On the motorway, if taking hands off wheel, it will need correcting after two-three seconds. At slow speeds, I can often see the steering wheel noticeably settle at a 10degree left rotation as I come up to traffic lights etc.
I'm UK driver, so it's a right hand drive vehicle. The problem seems to be more than just road camber to me.
I took it back to the wheel alignment place, and they verified that the alignment was good. They said my tyres were ancient (which was true) and that might be the problem. I changed all the tyres, but it is still off. It's a little fatiguing on long drives to need to keep a constant slight pressure on the wheel to keep the car straight.
I'm really not sure what could be causing the problem. The alignment guys told me that if the chassis was bent, that would have clearly shown on the alignment check - but they couldn't see any problems.
Any insight greatly appreciated.
