Hi,

I have been told my car is badly rusted underneath, I thought it was the subframe, but apparently its not. Ive got pictures but no idea how to upload to show you guys.

hoping someone can help, need to try and source the part cheaply. I just bought the car too :(

Looks like a suspension tie bar or rod.

Looks like it is holding some suspension parts,so I would have thought it was some kind of subframe.Has it failed an mot on this?Was this a private sale or a motor trader/dealer?

Looks like the rear subframe to me. All part of the assembly by the looks of the pictures. Although Kia have a reputation for good reliability they do still have issues with rust. Subframe and cross members on Cee'd and Sportage models rot alarmingly early, often earlier than this so they require careful checking underneath.

If it was a private sale then you've no comeback but if a dealer sold you this and it had a very recent Mot you have cause to complain. Did you check the Mot history before buying? It's likely this will have been an advisory for at least the last Mot maybe more.

Its the rear crossmember, the part costs approx £500 new plus labour to fit it.

A colleague at work just had to sell his Sportage for scrap due to this very problem. A shame as the rest of the car was in good order.
