Audi A3 1.6 Mk2 2004 - G83 Sensor - Where Is It? - A3 A4

Have a problem with my OH's A3 its went into limp mode and the EPC light came on which cleared itself on restart.

I scaned it with my generic scanner which revealed two codes

17968 (P1290) G83 Sensor

17796 (P1388) Control Module Malfunction- DBW Throttle Monitoring

Working my way through it starting with the G83 sensor there seems to be some confusion which sensor it is. Is it the one clipped in to the pipe on top of the engine or the one at the bottom of the radiator ?

Thank you for any help.

The problem with generic scanners is they are not very accurate and can give misleading information. However, the coolant temp sensor clipped into the pipe is usually the most problematic.Get a genuine part from Vw with a new o ring seal.

Thanks for the reply, I replaced that sensor 2 or three years ago but with different symptoms (misfire temperature gauge erratic) but I don't think it was a genuine VAG part.

More out of curiousity is that the G83 sensor?

I would say yes, usually a 2 or 4 pin sensor. The one in the rad could be the cooling fan sensor.Lots of variations depending on engine type. The other code you have is for the throttle body.Check the connection to it.Sometimes there is a fractured wire to the connector.
