I recently has a break down with my car due to the automatic gear box packing up. It is a 2008 diesel model
The vehicle has been serviced regularly with the dealer and suddenly the automatic transmission stalled after doing about 40,000 miles and on the overall has run up a mileage of 87,000miles.
The dealer informed me it broke down because of its age and that it is going to cost about £3400 plus VAT to repair because the vehicle is out of warranty. I found this very bizzare because my Nissan Almera, an automatic version is 14 years old and is still going strong without any major defects. When I contacted a gearbox specialist outside Mercedes Benz . I was informed that the A & B clases of MB usually come with nasty gearboxes , which may be true because shifting the gear involves it moving through arches as opposing to moving in a straight line !
Has anyone had a similar experience with this model ? It seems to me that these vehicles are no longer built to last !!
