Hi all!

I'm considering buying an American import. Looking at Lincoln Town Cars with the 4.6 Modular V8 at the moment (not stretched). Before I do so, has anyone got experience of maintaining one of these (or American cars in general) in the UK? Seeing as they were never sold here i'm a bit concerned about parts availability.

Thanks in advance!

Parts can be found. Companies such as Rodley Motors in Bradford are US car experts. Before deciding it may well be worth a call to them.

Also get involved with local owners clubs and do plenty of research. Once you are part of the scene of any marque owners club will generally be more than helpful.

In the old days, sourcing parts would have been difficult - but the internet makes everything possible.

The biggest problem would be finding somewhere to park. Spaces in most car parks are now a bit tight on width, for a Lincoln Town car length will be a problem.

Depends where you live and intend to go in it, of course.

I've run American cars in years gone by, parts no problem and considerably cheaper than equivalent european parts in many cases.

They were simple cars relatively speaking with lazy unstressed carburetter fuelled engines and transmissions so tended to be durable.

The more modern might still be ok for parts supply but not sure about programming or finding someone capable locally if problems are encountered.

Maybe not the ideal daily hack but great for pleasure.

Thanks everyone! Very encouraging.

How fascinating! I wonder if any of them are RHD conversions.
