Next door neighbour starts his M3 every day, goes indoors leaving it ticking over for a good ten minutes, then gets in and drives away.

Caught him today and asked why, (pointing out the quickest way to warm up is to drive off and put some load on the engine). He said "until its fully warm, there isn't any power, can't even change up to second" and claimed he'd heard this is a common problem with this version of the M3.

Anyone heard of this issue, can't believe it should happen unless there is some fault related to engine temperature?
