If it's the 4 speed torque converter linked to the 1.6 VTI engine which has now been dropped or the new 6 speed EAT6 (?) fitted to the higher output 1.2 engine then they are both excellent. If it's EGC or the current EGS which are both of the automated manual type then avoid at all cost IMHO.

I am thinking both! The 1.4 with EGC is VERYfuel effiecient - 83 mpg . The 1.6 with the 4 speed torque converter the insurance is more expensive it has £180 road tax and 42 mpg only.

I did a test drive today of the 1.4 EGC and is slow but seems ok overall! Is it not reliable? I havent seen any problems on here i think!

No one makes a long term reliable/durable and decent to drive automated manual, apart from Volvo which they put in their lorries and sell to Renault to put in their lorries.

It will eventually play up, and until it does it will be a horrid thing to be in traffic with and to manoever with.

In its first incarnation when it was called Sensodrive a Citroen dealer once told me it was a good box on the motorway, that i can believe, sitting in top gear at a steady speed is just about all they are good for.

83 mpg?, have you checked HJ's Real MPG section above?

yes the real is 59.6 mpg for the 1.4 EGC and the 1.6 is 38.6! i think the difference is huge! I dont know!

The smart fortwo (previews one) i think has a relatively reliable automated manual.
