vectra 2002 1.8 16v ecotec - car cut out whilst driving, wont start, no crank - smcushley

Car cut out whilst driving and now will not start. Turn the key - nothing. Dash lights come on as they should, no change in the fuel guage. Fuel pump doesnt make any noise. Can here a click from the relay in the boot fuse box and clicking from the front end, not sure if it the fuse box or ecu i can hear. Other than that I get absolutely nothing.

Just to clarify the following is everything I have tried so far

key in positions 1 &2 - usual dash lights
Key in cranking position - nothing
No fuel pump priming, no fuel guage

Checked all fuses and relays

new fuel filter

Cleaned ecu and sensor plugs
Disconnected battery and left overnight

Tried jump starting - not even the slightest crank

Bit of previous history will help.

How long have had the car, mileage and time?

When did you last fill it up?

Do you mean the fuel guage is showing empty?

You obviously have a major supply failure, could possibly be a faulty ignition switch or maybe a fuse. Use a multimeter and check for 12 volts on all the fuses with the ignition on, if you have a number with no voltage on there may be a wiring fault or a maxi fuse failed, ye really need a circuit diagram.

Could be a failed Cim module. This sits behind the steering wheel and controls various functions, including the immobiliser system.I assume this is a Vectra C model.

If it's the same CIM as the Saab 9-3 (and I'd bet it is) then that could be your culprit. If it is the same, contact Brook Saab near Chester, Andy Brook knows his onions. And there's a guy over Norfolk way does mobile Tech 2 if you decide to go diy fit (I did, though in my case it was the rotary coupler). He advertises on eBay.

If you buy a secondhand CIM make sure it comes with at least one working key!!

I have found the culprit now! I removed the ignition barrel and reinserted it, it wasnt locking in properly, I had now sorted it
