Vauxhall Carlton 3.0l - converting transmission from auto to manual - djbthatsme

Can you please confirm what parts are required to convert the transmission on a 3.0l Vauxhall Carlton from automatic to manual and what the procedure is.

Been asked this a few times in the past and my answer is don't unless you have a full operating manual doner car to act as a parts base and guide to what/where.

I have done a couple and that's how I did it.

Not worth doing. Sell auto car and buy a manual one.

Job done!

Agreed. You will need the clutch pedal box and fittings for a start, the bearing in the centre of the flywheel will need changing to say nothing of the electronics.

Hugely expensive as the Carlton 3.0 manual was rare when new and used a different 'box to the more mundane Carltons.

I assume you will get a fully qualified engineer's inspection report to give to your insurance company.

If not, then you may be uninsured.

Thanks for you reply hardway, your suggestion is not viable under the circumstances. I will need to know precisely whats required before the job is undertake' so as I am able to cost the parts . I will also need to know about how long it would take and what it could cost me. Before anyone suggests the maindealers they don't want to know in my area-Derbyshire.

You will probably find the labour costs to have the job done would be in the region of £1000 or more, plus all the parts if you can find them. The only way you can guarantee having all the necessary parts is to get a doner vehicle. I suspect some of the parts will not be available from the manufacturer.

Your next problem is finding someone to do it, unless you are intending to do it yourself which I think is the only way you will find it viable.
