ford focus 1.6 petrol - Waterpump and belt change at same time? - sparerib

Had the cambelt done on a 1.6 focus, 04 plate. When changing the cambelt on this model, would you expect the pump to be done as well, given the engine layout? Garage have said they only did the belt as waterpump didn't need doing even though I did say do it to save a later job? Not sure of the layout under the bonnet, does this sound right?

Best to do both at same time

Not 100% certain but I think that the waterpump is easily replaceable on the 1.6 without disturbing the cam belt again. Think its a bolt in module.

But its still easier to change when the engine is partly dismantled.

On this model ,the water pump is driven from the poly vee belt, not the cambelt. So not really neccessary to replace during cambelt renewal, although as previously stated,it is easier to do with the engine partially stripped. The later model 05 onwards,is a different set up ,with the cambelt tensioner forms part of the water pump housing.
